It’s the 4th of July at Houck Hollow

At Houck Hollow we celebrate the holidays in style. Colleen loves shopping for vintage holiday decorations at antique stores and combining them with fun finds she acquires from stores ranging from the norms like Hobby Lobby and Home Goods, to surprise discoveries she might pick up at her local Ace Hardware.

THE GRAND STAIRCASE

The grand staircase is one of the main decorating features at Houck Hollow.

Lights Over the Big Island

The lights over the big island make interesting focal features for holiday decor and we’ve used them often. Here we’ve taken Dollar Store red, white, and blue fairy wings and wooden stars and hung them from the light hooks.

The Fireplace

Colleen collects multicolored lights of all types and sometimes it becomes a challenge to place them all without blowing fuses. Here we’ve taken her red, white and blue garland lights, and accented them with bows.

Shelves & Books

When Colleen had the built-ins created around the fireplace, she wanted large shelves to hold her holiday decorations. But not only that, she also wanted to feature her extensive collection of holiday books.

Windows

Deep window shelves also provide a nice little spot to place cute holiday knickknacks and allows us to add color to brighten up empty spaces.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the holiday: with fireworks, at the beach, with books, with family, at a cookout, or on a tropical island, don’t forget to tell the people you care about that they’re important to you. If there’s one thing this past year has taught me, it’s that you never know when the last time you’ll get to tell someone how much you love them might happen. Don’t waste those precious opportunities.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

As always, those of us at Houck Hollow, wish you and yours a joyous holiday and a fun filled summer! Don’t forget to take a book with you wherever your journey takes you and you’ll always have a friend.
