Field Trip Rate $10 per person

To qualify for field trip rates, a group must be affiliated with one of the following:

  • A public or private school in the state of Washington or Oregon
  • A state-registered daycare or homeschool program
  • A group including children associated with the Columbia Canary Club, or any other bird watching, breeding, or veterinary organization, or religious organization

We charge a minimum fee of $200, excluding lunch costs. Maximum participants for field trip groups is 40.

Gathering Rate Priced According to Event

Gatherings at Houck Hollow not involving birds are priced according to the event, the number of people involved, the space required, the staff needed, and cleaning fees. Please contact propertymanager@houckhollow.com to discuss your plans.

Rules:

  • For every five children under the age of eighteen, there must be one adult present.
  • The visit must be arranged and paid for at least two weeks in advance
  • Tickets are non-refundable
  • We accept payment via Venmo, cash, PayPal, or by check
  • We want our guests to enjoy their experience, but we also care for our birds. Please do not chase or tease them to ensure everyone’s safety.
  • Also, there are many large rocks, fences, and barricades. Please stay on the paths and do not climb on rocks or play in the water.
  • Dispose of trash and recycling in the provided bins
  • Chaperones, please remain with your assigned students and encourage appropriate behavior

  • Senior citizens age 55+ and children age 2 and younger do not need to pay admission fees

What’s Included in the Basics?

Houck Hollow offers bird-watching and feeding experiences that immerse guests in the beauty of nature, providing them with a welcome gift that includes a delightful coloring book, along with a map that guides them on their avian adventure. Visitors can tour the indoor aviary filled with exotic tropical birds, where they can marvel at their vibrant plumage and unique behaviors, watching as these magnificent creatures flit about with grace and curiosity. Families are encouraged to picnic along the banks of a picturesque creek that flows year-round, while exploring the website, learning about Oregon’s rich natural history and the captivating story of Salem, thereby enhancing the educational experience and fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife conservation. This enchanting environment not only allows guests to connect with nature in a peaceful setting, but also invites them to share stories and laughter, creating lasting memories that enhance their understanding of the delicate ecosystems surrounding them.

  • Use of the two large tables and chairs in the main area of the house

Some of our presentations include: Pet Birds Through History, An Egg-Citing Adventure, Get Your Ducks in a Row, Mother Goose Teaches Nursery Rhymes, What’s Good for the Goose, Goose Crafts, The History of Orchard Heights, Sugar Cookie Decorating, and MORE! We can also provide many supplies so you don’t need to bring them in yourself. Just ask. We probably have it.
