Bourke’s parakeets are actually small parrots native to Australia. They’re very intelligent, gentle, and quiet birds that get along very well with other types of birds. We’ve housed ours with canaries and finches and they’ve tolerated the smaller birds quite well. They make very good parents once they’ve settled into a happy home and found a mate.
A Bourke’s gender is very difficult to identify. Unlike a budgie, you can’t tell based on the color of the cere, the fleshy area above the beak. For most Bourkes, breeders rely on experience, feather color, and behavior.
December 2025 Update: All of our Bourkes have been moved over to Birds N’ Harmony, our sister site. They will be taking over the breeding of our Bourke line. Feel free to contact them for future babies!

Oskie—Born 2024
Oskie is one of three siblings born to our Bourke parents last year. We originally named her Oscar the Grouch since she hissed at us when we picked her up.
Type—Bronze Fallow Hen

Faye—Born 2024
Faye is the sweetest of her siblings and is the only one still willing to step up onto my finger. Her colors are striking. This bird is definitely the most unique of her clutch.
Type—Opaline Fallow Hen

Goldie—Born 2024
Goldie is a combination of two mutations. She’s opaline, meaning white-faced pink, and lutino like her mother. Lutino Bourkes have red eyes, pale nails, and a lot of pink color.
Type—Rubino Hen

Paris—Bought 2024
Mom fell in love with Paris and Primrose when she first saw them at the Bird Hut in Portland. She snuck them into the house in a too-small pink cage one Saturday afternoon.
Type—Rosy Bourke Male

Primrose—Bought 2024
Primrose passed away in the line of duty. She was a retired senior, and she and Paris were visiting one of the local senior homes to cheer up other seniors like her. She was a sweetheart and my favorite Bourke. She loved millet and would always land on my hand or shoulder. RIP Primrose!
Type—Rosy Bourke Hen

Percy—Bought 2024
Percy is a great dad. He’s the father of Oskie, Faye, and Goldie. Mated to Paisley, Percy enjoys sitting in the nest with his best gal & bringing her food. The pair are a very happy, loyal couple. Whenever Percy is worried about his mate, he softly chirps to show his concern.
Type—Bronze Fallow Male

Paisley—Bought 2024
This beautiful bird is a fantastic momma. She takes excellent care of her little ones and rarely leaves her nest. 2025 marks our second year with this pair and we’ve moved them into their own nest so they can enjoy a quality family life by themselves. Percy likes the peace and quiet.
Type—Lutino Hen

Baby Bourkes
Oskie, Faye, and Goldie as babies. They are born naked, but you can already see what colors they will be by the time they open their eyes. I think they’re adorable. They already show personality at a very young age as well.
